About the Artwork
An original piece created in collaboration by Artashes Sardarian and Kathrin Marchenko.
This work embodies both fragility and resilience. The plate, once broken, has been restored using the Japanese kintsugi technique, where golden seams celebrate imperfections rather than concealing them. From the center of the fractures, an embroidered hand emerges—alive, delicate, and vulnerable.
-
A metaphor for time: Each thread suggests veins of memory running through the body of the object, merging the past with the present.
-
From broken to reborn: Once discarded, now revived, the plate is given a second life through embroidery and gold.
-
Symbolism of the hand: It represents human touch, fragility, and the creative force that reshapes the forgotten into something extraordinary.
This piece stands as a testament to the idea that beauty is often found in imperfection, and that what is broken can be transformed into something even more powerful and meaningful.
